Skoda teases Kodiaq ahead of September debut

New large SUV line promises class-leading space and flexibility.

Skoda has issued teaser pictures of its new large SUV, the Kodiak.

The all-new model, described by Skoda as its first car to transfer the brand’s latest design language into the SUV segment, will be unveiled at a special event in Berlin on 1st September.

However a camouflaged version has already been shown in public, acting as a chase vehicle during the recent Tour de France cycle race.

The pictures show the wide radiator grille of the Kodiaq, which its designers say combines with narrow, raked headlamps to give the car a striking presence. These will be available for the first time as LED units and will boast a distinct light signature.

The flanks, rear lamps and wheels of the car are also shown in the teaser images.

Skoda is promising “exceptional” space in the Kodiaq, its 720-litre boot expanding to 2,065 litres with the rear seats folded down and claiming class-leading volume. The front passenger seat will also fold to allow the carrying of items measuring up to 2.9 metres in length.

The model will also be the first Skoda available as a seven-seater and according to its makers will offer a number of seating and loading options courtesy of seat position and angle adjustment.

A number of driver-aid technologies will be available to Kodiaq buyers including surround-view cameras, a towing-assist system to help steering when reversing, and Skoda Connect mobile online services.

The Kodiaq’s powertrain line-up will include 1.4 TSI petrol engines of 123 and 148bhp, a 2.0 version with 178bhp, and 2.0 diesels in 148 or 187bhp.
